I've been running small businesses since 2012: a restaurant, a dive shop called Red Alert Diving, and a property management company. Three very different trades, and the same week every time: too much to do, not enough hours, and every dollar already spoken for.
I've also spent sixteen years teaching people, from middle schoolers to Navy fighter pilots with engineering degrees, in high-risk settings where getting the procedure right keeps people alive. That teaches you to explain things clearly, to reach every audience where they live, and to never pretend something works when it doesn't.
Along the way I was the Florida territory rep for Divers Alert Network, the largest dive safety agency in the world, project coordinator at J&D Properties, and, at 17, the lead technical producer for a conference of over 2500 students. These days I also do facilities and production work.
